No flies fly into a closed mouth.
-Julia Alvarez

What this is saying is that maybe people say things that other people said but the person that is being blamed didnt really say that so they are just making rumors about the person because they dont like them or they just want to get something started with them.

3.3-why did the boy not beat up antonio? i know that antonio was small but that boy seems like he does not care and i thought he would beat up antoni but he did not.
1. the narrator is an older version of the main character.

Pelayo- Elisenda's Husband
Elisenda- Pelayo's wife
The Angel- Came to take the baby when he was sick
The Neighbor- She new everything about life and death

I think that they called the story "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings" indstead of "An Angel" because in the beginning of the story pelayo didnt know that it was an angel he was frightend by what he saw laying in the mud.

The Villagers responeded to the spider girl differently because it seemed like the angel was just normal because it was just something that everyone had already seen and it wasn't really a shock anymore
The world is not respectable; it is mortal, tormented, confused, deluded forever; but it is shot through with beauty, with love, with glints of courage and laughter; and in these, the spirit blooms timidly, and struggles to the light amid the thorns.
-George Santayana
its saying that we have our ups and downs by livnig in the world like we have a bad positon because of what we do to the world and what we dont do with the world but we also have our good times by making every one happy and having every body making things happen and that we would get through this little by little.

Most people are prisoners, thinking only about the future or living in the past. They are not in the present, and the present is where everything begins.
-Carlos Santana

basically he is saying that people think about the past and keep the past with them and thats why they would do bad or do something bad. if people looked at it in the present they would relize that maybe they have to start over and that they have to change and so they do.
I learned to discipline myself to do things I didn't want to do.
-Edward James Olmos

well what its saying is that he learned what to do and what not to do as a man and check on what he is doing.
Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore. We have seen the future, and the future is ours.
-Cesar Chavez

this is saying that education is good because people now know what people are talking about when they say something or when something is said to them people are aware of what the future is going to be.
